🏢 Companies House & Corporate Documents

Apostille Companies House
Documents — Two Routes,
Very Different Costs

Certificates of Incorporation, Good Standing, Memorandum & Articles, accounts and confirmation statements, apostilled for use abroad. There are two ways to do it: a solicitor-certified copy — cheaper and quicker, accepted by China, the UAE and most other countries — or a certified copy obtained direct from Companies House, which is what Spain requires. Choosing the wrong one costs time and money.

Who We Help

Why You Might Need an Apostille on a Company document

Corporate legalisation is almost always driven by a deadline someone else set — a bank, a registry, a tender. These are the situations we handle most.

🏦
Opening a Corporate Bank Account Abroad
Overseas banks will not open an account for a UK company without legalised incorporation documents and, usually, a Certificate of Good Standing.
Common documents
IncorporationGood StandingM&A of Association
🌍
Setting Up a Subsidiary or Branch
Registering a foreign subsidiary, branch or representative office requires the parent company's constitutional documents apostilled and often translated.

Tenders & Government Contracts
Public procurement abroad routinely requires legalised proof of incorporation and good standing as part of the bid pack, to a fixed deadline.

Trademark & IP Registration
Foreign IP registries frequently ask for a legalised extract proving the applicant company exists and who may sign for it.

Distributor & Agency Agreements
Appointing an agent or distributor overseas often requires legalised corporate documents alongside a power of attorney.

The Two Routes — and Which Countries Take Which

The FCDO apostilles a signature it recognises. For company documents that signature can come from a solicitor, or from the Registrar of Companies. Countries differ on which they will accept.

DocumentNotes
✅  Solicitor-certified copy — the usual routeA solicitor certifies the document as a true copy and the FCDO apostilles that certification. Cheaper and quicker, and accepted by China, the UAE and most other countries. Around £95 per document all in.
✅  Certified copy obtained direct from Companies House — required for SpainWe order a certified copy from Companies House on your behalf and it is apostilled with the Registrar's certification. Spain requires this route and will reject a solicitor-certified copy. The Companies House fee varies by document; we charge £30 on top to obtain it.
✅  Certificate of Good StandingIssued by Companies House and commonly demanded by overseas banks and registries. Ordered and apostilled the same way.
✅  Incorporation, M&A of Association, accounts, confirmation statementsAll routinely apostilled. Tell us which the receiving party has actually asked for — lists are often longer than they need to be.
❌  A PDF downloaded from the Companies House websiteThe free download from the public register carries no certification, so there is nothing for the FCDO to apostille. It has to be certified first — by a solicitor, or by Companies House itself.
❌  Guessing which route your destination wantsOrder the wrong certification and you pay twice and lose a week. Ask us first; it costs nothing and takes minutes.
Ask Us Before You Order Anything From Companies House
This is the one page on our site where a five-minute conversation genuinely saves money. Spain will only accept a certified copy issued by Companies House itself — a solicitor-certified copy gets rejected at the registry, after you have paid for the certification, the apostille and usually a sworn translation. China, the UAE and most other destinations are the other way round: they accept the solicitor-certified copy, which is both cheaper and faster, so ordering from Companies House there is money you did not need to spend.

Send us the list your bank, lawyer or registry gave you along with the destination country, and we will tell you which route applies, what it will total, and which of the documents on that list you actually need. Some destinations also require embassy attestation after the apostille — we will confirm that at the same time.

Questions

Companies House Document Apostille — Common Questions

It depends entirely on the destination. Spain will only accept a certified copy issued by Companies House itself and rejects solicitor-certified copies. China, the UAE and most other countries accept the solicitor-certified copy, which is both cheaper and quicker. Tell us the country before you order anything and we will confirm which applies.
The solicitor route is about £95 per document — £20 for the certification and £79 for the apostille, which we discount to £95. The Companies House route is quoted rather than fixed, because Companies House sets its own fee and it varies by document; on top of that fee we charge £30 to obtain the certified copy for you, plus £79 for the apostille. Send us the list and we will price the whole set.
No — not on its own. The free download from the public register carries no certification, so there is nothing for the FCDO to apostille. It has to be certified first, either by a solicitor or by Companies House.
Certificate of Incorporation, Certificate of Good Standing, Memorandum and Articles of Association, annual accounts, confirmation statements, certificates of change of name, and most other filings on the register. Board resolutions and powers of attorney are handled slightly differently — send us the list and we will sort it out.
Overseas banks and company registries very often insist on one, because it confirms the company is currently on the register and not in the process of being struck off. If your bank has asked for proof the company is 'active' or 'in good standing', that is the document they mean.
Not for this route. We work from certified copies — either one a solicitor produces, or one obtained from Companies House. Your own originals stay with you.
For Hague Apostille Convention countries the apostille is sufficient. Some destinations require embassy or consular attestation after the apostille. Tell us the country when you enquire and we will confirm the full chain and cost up front — see also our UAE commercial attestation page.
The FCDO apostille runs on a 72-hour turnaround, with next-day available. The solicitor certification usually adds a day. The Companies House route depends on how quickly Companies House issues the certified copy, which is outside our control — we will give you a realistic date rather than an optimistic one.
