Why Qatar Needs More Than an Apostille
Most countries accept a UK document with an FCDO apostille alone because they belong to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention. Qatar does not, so it relies on the older chain of legalisation: the FCDO confirms the UK signature, the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce confirms the FCDO stamp, and the Qatar Embassy confirms the whole document for use in Qatar. Does Qatar accept a UK apostille on its own?
No. Qatar is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so an FCDO apostille alone is not accepted there. UK personal documents for Qatar are certified by a solicitor, apostilled by the FCDO, legalised by the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce and then attested by the Embassy of the State of Qatar in London. We handle every stage in one job.
How much does Qatar Embassy attestation cost for personal documents?
£195 per document, all-inclusive, with our Qatar discount. The standard price is £205: £95 for solicitor certification and the FCDO apostille, £38 Arab-British Chamber of Commerce fee, £22 Qatar Embassy fee and £50 for our handling, less £10 Qatar discount. Return delivery is extra if you do not collect.
How long does Qatar Embassy attestation take?
Allow 5–7 working days end to end from the day your documents reach our City of London office. That covers solicitor certification, the FCDO apostille, the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce and the Qatar Embassy. Embassy closures and Qatari public holidays can add time; we tell you if that applies.
Why does the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce have to legalise my document?
The Qatar Embassy in London attests documents only after they have been legalised by the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce (ABCC). The Chamber stamp sits between the FCDO apostille and the Embassy attestation. We submit to the Chamber for you, and its fee is included in the price.
Which personal documents can be attested for Qatar?
Birth, marriage and death certificates, decree absolute or final order, ACRO police certificates, degree and diploma certificates, academic transcripts, medical reports, powers of attorney and certificates of no impediment. Commercial documents follow a separate route and are quoted individually.
What extra documents does the Qatar Embassy need for a degree certificate?
A degree or diploma certificate cannot be attested on its own. The Embassy also asks for the official university transcript and a cover letter from the university confirming the certificate is genuine, the qualification title, mode of study and course start and end dates. If the university cannot provide these, a letter from it explaining why is needed instead.
Can a laminated certificate be attested for Qatar?
No. Laminated documents are refused. For a UK birth, marriage or death certificate we can order a replacement from the General Register Office before starting the attestation.
Can several documents be attested together?
Each document is certified, apostilled and attested individually, so the £195 price applies per document. There is no limit on how many you send in one order, and they all travel through the process together.
Can I use this service if I am already in Qatar?
Yes. Send your documents to our City of London office by international courier and we return them to Qatar by DHL international courier (£60) or Royal Mail international tracked post (£20).
